Greenpeace has released an updated version of their Carting Away the Oceans Campaign which ranks supermarkets according to their sustainable seafood policies and purchasing. A combination of factors including increased initiative by large retailers, consumer pressure, and this Greenpeace effort to draw attention to the sustainable seafood movement has led half of the top 20 retailers nationwide to partner with environmental NGOs, largely within the last 6 months.

Once again FishWise retail partners have scored higher on the supermarket rankings than their competitors due to their strong commitments to sustainable seafood and ocean health. Greenpeace has created a website that allows you to search for retailers by state.

FishWise member retailers continue to increase their score years after their first sustainable seafood work, with Andronicos, MOMs, New Frontiers, Sacramento Natural Foods, and Surf Supermarket improving since the last report.

Safeway, Inc. moved up to #4 on the list after partnering with FishWise and creating a plan to improve the sustainability of their entire seafood inventory.
